Carefully read through all of the information below regarding tryouts for next year's team. There is detailed information about the tryout, alternative ways to tryout and what you will need to know. Be sure to follow all directions and/or meet any deadlines on time. If you have any questions that are not answered, please feel free email the team at osuagct@aol.com We hope you will have already read the "about us" link and looked over the "schedule" for the current season which with both give you a pretty clear idea of what our program is about and the commitment.

The OSU Women's Competitive Team is a very structured program and we strive to be excellent. This is only possible through the commitment and dedication of our members. If you have the ability and the drive to be successful and you are committed to this sport, then our family is the fit for you!

If there is enough talent, we will have two teams (Scarlet and Gray) for the 2012-2013 season. Everyone is eligible to tryout for either team.

We are looking for dedicated athletic individuals that want to compete and be a part of a winning team. Our tryout seeks out talent and potential in athletes. The process is very relaxed and is designed to get the best performances from each person in order to most accurately evaluate their talent.

If you eat sleep breathe and live cheerleading, this is the program for you. Don't assume you can make the team in the fall or put off this opportunity. If you want to be an Ohio State All Girl Cheerleader, it is your responsibility to prepare and tryout!

We hope to see you there!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. How many people will make the team?
These is no limit to the number we will take. We take a number according to talent
  2. Will I make the team without a standing tuck
We prefer a standing tuck for the Scarlet team, however, depending on the talent at the tryout it is very possible to make the team without a standing tuck if you are a solid in other areas.
  3. What if I don't have any tumbling, whill I make the team?
Probably not. We require a standing bhs. If you are exceptional in stunting, there's a chance.
  4. Which team will I be on?
If we have enough people for two teams, the split will be made after the season starts next year. We give everyone time to develop. However, some people will be identified for each team from this tryout based on their current skill level in relation to everyone on the team.
  5. What if I don't have any stunting experience?
You can learn everything you need to know at the tryout. It will not be a problem if you are athletic.
  6. Does it cost anything to tryout?
There are no costs or fees associated with trying out.
  7. Can I tryout if I wasn't recruited or if I didn't send in a video?
You do not have to be invited, send a video or be recruited to tryout for the team.
  8. How many girls tryout?
Typically there are about 30-50 girls total that tryout for the team
  9. Who do I tryout out in front of?
The tryout is only judged by the coaching staff. You are selected based on ability, nothing else.
  10. Can anyone else watch the tryout?
Yes. The tryout is open but there is very little seating area.
  11. Is there a first cut or just a final cut?
There is a first cut before lunch. It will be based on what is seen from working on stunting, reviewing the motion/dance sequence, performing the standing tumbling and jumps.
  12. Can a person tryout in the fall if they don't make it in the spring?
The fall tryout is always open to anyone. However, we have limited spots in the fall and typically only take on a few additional athletes. It is always best to tryout in the spring.
  13. Can I bring my own stunt group?
No. You will be able to stunt with the groups that are there at the tryout.
  14. Is there a size or weight limit?
No there is not. We seek fit athletic women for the team. There are no set limits outside of ability.
  15. Can I tryout for the coed game day team at the same time?
No. They are two completely separate program and tryouts. However, you may tryout for the all girl competitive team even if you did not make the coed squad as our tryouts are later.

RECRUITING PROCESS

Coaches identify athletes with a high level of tumbling, stunting and general cheerleading ability throughout the season. We will then contact those athletes directly or through their organizations in order to talk further about their college plans. Coaches, athletes, friends or family may submit a recommendation of an athlete by emailing osuagct@aol.com with the athlte's name, school or all star team, standing/running tumbling and stunting position and a summary of skills in those areas. Those skills must exceed the listed minimums for the Scarlet team to be considered for recruitment.

CLEAR AND VISIBLE Individual video or team routine video's demonstrating jumps, tumbling and stunting should be submitted after the coaching staff has contacted the athlete. Compatible athltes will be offered automatic positions in the program for the upcoming season.

Returning team members will be eligible for the same process based on their demonstrated ability throughout the course of the season. In addition to the recruiting process, there is the traditional tryout process for all other athletes that are not directly offered a position. If you have a conflict with that tryout date, please see the individual or video tryout tabs for alternatives.

TRYOUT PROCESS

There will be a tryout process for any athletes not direclty offered a position prior to May 13, through the recruiting process. Returners and all other new athletes attend this tryout. Athletes that were considered during the recruiting process, but were not offered a position or who sent a video or had an individual tryout may elect to also attend this tryout and demonstrate their skills again.

If you have a conflict with the tryout date, please see the individual or video tryout tabs for alternatives.

Our tryout is a fair and equal process. There are no judges; the squad is picked by the coaches. The tryout process is very relaxed and low key. The idea is to facilitate the absolute best performance from each and every person attending. We are looking for cheerleaders who show mastery of basic cheer skill (jumps, motions and dance) and demonstrate ABILITY OR POTENTIAL to excel in stunting and tumbling.

YOU are responsible for your opportunity to tryout for what could be the most amazing part of your college years. We strongly recommend that you be at the tryout in person or make every effort to make arrangements well in advanced. Late request, videos or last minute arrangements do reflect on your overall interest/dedication and responsibility level and could potentially prevent your success in the tryout process.

INDIVIDUAL TRYOUT

Anyone not able to attend the actual tryout on May 13, can arrange to tryout in person by an individual session with the coaching staff. A live tryout is always recommended over a video tryout to give the coaching staff the best possible demonstration of your talent and for them to get an in person feel for you as an athlete and an individual.

You can arrange an individual tryout session from April 23 - May 12, 2012. Tryouts are an hour session one on one with the coaching staff along with assistance from current team members for the stunting portion. Skill requirements will follow all the requirements on the SKILLS REQ. tab of this menu bar. Please follow the GENERAL REQ. also.Email the head coach to arrange your individual tryout. osuagct@aol.com

Do not be intimidated if you have no stunting experience. You will learn everything you need to at the tryout for the stunting portion. This is common among Ohio HS students since many HS's don't stunt. Potential is just as important as mastery.

ONE DAY FORMAT

In order to efficiently evaluate everyone's talents in one day, we will be posting all of the tryout material online.Detailed video of the motion/dance sequence two weeks before the tryout.
It is your responsibility to learn the material in advance. There will be time for teaching/working stunts and tumbling and a review of all the other material. However, it will be noticeable in your performance if you have not learned the material and prepared your jump sequences prior to the tryout day. We want to see the best of everyone's abilities. With that being said, you have plenty of advanced time to learn and practice the material instead of just learning it and performing it in one day.

This is a tentative schedule and is subject to change. The changes, if any will be posted here and highlighted. The tryout will remain a one day process even if there are changes.
